Press Release of the Ng Yuk Secondary School 46th Sports Day

The 46th Anniversary Sports Meet of Ng Yuk Secondary School was held on September 20th and 21st at Ma On Shan Sports Ground. For the first time since the epidemic, the school resumed a complete sports meet. The atmosphere was very lively. All the teachers and students of the school showed off their skills and sportsmanship in various sports events. Ng Yuk Secondary School has participated in the "School Startup Program" (Project WeCan) since 2011 and has been receiving generous support from Wheelock Properties Limited for many years. Colleagues from Wheelock Real Estate Co., Ltd. upheld the tradition and were present to support the teachers and students of our school. They also participated in the "60-metre Fun Obstacle Race" together with teachers and students of the four houses, members of the parents' association and school management committee members. All the athletes tried their best in the competition, sweating and cheering for their peers. The atmosphere was full of joy and warmth. The closing ceremony was officiated by Mr. Yapp Hung-fai, the captain of the Hong Kong football team. The event ended successfully in a cheerful and lively atmosphere.

In the morning of the first day of sports day, the weather was sunny and cloudless. The guard of honour led the officials of the four houses and athlete representatives to enter the venue, kicking off the 46th sports day. After the flag-raising ceremony, Principal Iris Fung delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. She pointed out that although the sports event was held in September, a relatively hot month, it allowed our Secondary Six students to participate in their last sports day in their secondary school life. The principal also encouraged the athletes to go all out to participate in the competitions, while the students in the stands should try their best to encourage house members to display their sportsmanship. Then, the athletes and referees took the oath under the supervision of Principal Fung, symbolizing the official start of the 46th sports day.

The school athletes showed outstanding sports talents during the two-day competition and completed various events with respect and seriousness. Encouraged by Principal Fung, the students worked hard and broke many school records. In the girl’s Group A discus throw competition, 5A Su Mok-yau set a school record with 22.13 metres, a breathtaking performance. In the men's Group B long jump competition, 3A Fan Yichen set a new record with a score of 5.63 metres. 5D Wong Wai-shing achieved a time of 17.56 seconds in the men's open 100-meter hurdles race, becoming the new record holder. In the end, the overall inter-house championship was won by the Yellow House, while the first runner-up, second runner-up and fourth place were the Red House, Green House and Blue House respectively. In addition, the inter-house cheerleading competition was fierce. Teachers and classmates performed together. The audience shouted and cheered enthusiastically. In the end, Green House won the cheerleading competition for their outstanding performance. In the afternoon of the final day, the Form 6 students even organized a special relay race for the graduating classes. Teams composed of four Form 6 students competed against each other at first and then went together to embody one of the five virtues of the school: mutual care. The scene was touching.

The closing ceremony was held in the afternoon of the second day. The officiating guest Mr. Yaap delivered a motivational speech, recalling his different experiences in participating in the Sports Day when he was a child. He also used his own experience in participating in football to encourage students to be positive, strive to find personal goals, strive for progress, and achieve success in any aspect. As the school flag slowly lowered, Ng Yuk Secondary School 46th Sports Day came to a successful end.
